As we come to the last message in our series about our friend Daniel, we see that he has served well in multiple administrations and two empires … but the challenges to his faith remain! I hope you can join us, either personally in the sanctuary or through the live stream, as we explore this example of faith lived out in less than ideal circumstances … which sounds pretty close to our own experiences as followers of Jesus!

Our fourth installment in the series “Faithful Living in an Unsympathetic World” involves a return visit to examine the life of the leader of the Babylonian empire. He has made some headway, no doubt due to the presence of the God-fearing Hebrew exiles serving in his court … but like all of us, he still has a way to go. We are sometimes perplexed by our halting progress within our spiritual selves … but this passage gives us much hope.

All of us have encountered, within our busy lives, certain people who are our superiors (bosses, teachers, coaches, etc.), who ask a little more from us than they really should … beyond simple service into what we might call border-line worship. We certainly do live within an empire of sorts, just like the three lads in our story this Sunday … but we know deep within us the Being who really deserves our worship.

In reflecting on another episode from the life of our friend Daniel we will be reminded that we often run across troubled people in our world … and that our heavenly Father cares greatly for them. Plan to be present, either in person or through the live stream, as we witness how this servant of God channels the Father’s love to a distraught king. In the process we might even receive “pointers” as to how we might be of service to people we know who have reached an impasse in their own lives.
