Father’s Day

On Father’s Day, we turn our hearts to The Father, our Heavenly Father who is faithful, present, and full of love. Before Jesus did anything, God spoke blessing over Him: “You are my Son, whom I love.” That same love belongs to you. You do not earn it through performance. You receive it because you belong to Him. Prayer is where we quiet the competing voices, remember our identity as children of God, and hear His blessing again. When you pray “Our Father,” you come home to the One who has loved you all along. You are loved. You belong.

As I look around me, I see so many fathers and people doing the same thing – searching for blessings and the contentment we talked about last week all over the place only to find out that happiness can’t be found there. The writer of Psalm 1 wanted to help us find the life that God has in store. He wrote that if we want the life God has planned for us, we must be careful to search where it can be found. He points out three mindsets and ways of living that will lead us away from blessing.

Fathers, Granddads – Church, my encouragement to you in your waiting is to not give up – keep praying, keep waiting, and keep watching for your lost one to come home. God’s in charge of the timing.

We are like the moon … the night is dark. But every night the moon reflects the sun that is no longer visible. In darkness, when you can’t see the sun, you can know it is there by how it reflects off of the moon. When you chose to live following God’s example, you are being the light that is most often bringing wisdom in to the darkness around us.
